Regarding tables, I think at a minimum. Do you want something that looks light as a feather, as it could float. Some even prefer the glass table, which could only see half there. Take into account the table if you choose a table with glass top, as this will determine not only the look of the table, but the entire kitchen as well.

Dining chairs are also important and again is even more relevant when the table top is transparent. Upholstered chairs can look good and feel good to sit in, but note that it may be harder to maintain their appearance over time. Material will be loose, light colored stools and stain easily. This is a shortcoming that will be easy to get rid of, though it will stand out like a sore thumb in an otherwise impeccable cuisine.

Consider putting the island in the middle of the kitchen. This creates visual interest and significantly expands the workspace. If you design from scratch, consider finding a stove, oven and sink in the island. This is a fairly radical departure from the ubiquitous traditional kitchen design that puts the stove to the wall. It is also very functional, allowing the cook to look into the room, instead of staring at the wall.
