This is a shortcoming that will be easy to get rid of, though it will stand out like a sore thumb in an otherwise impeccable cuisine.

Consider putting the island in the middle of the kitchen. This creates visual interest and significantly expands the workspace. If you design from scratch, consider finding a stove, oven and sink in the island. This is a fairly radical departure from the ubiquitous traditional kitchen design that puts the stove to the wall. It is also very functional, allowing the cook to look into the room, instead of staring at the wall.
